Reading Notes: Tiny Tales Mahabharata, Part B
In Part B, there was a lot of drama that had spurred out
between the two families. It seemed as if revenge to get one another was the
main theme and only goal in life. While one side seemed more advantageous – the
Pandavas, the other side left no stone unturned to beat them. The scene where Duryodhana
plots to burn the home of the Pandavas was so cinematic in my opinion. While he
ordered that all the materials be soaked in resin so the house would burn down,
Vidura warned the Pandavas about Duryodhana evil plans. They planned by building
a tunnel in which they would be able to escape once the fire was set – and they
made it look like they had all died in the fire. Duryodhana also believed that
they had died. He thought he had tricked them, but he himself got ticked. That
scene taught me a big lesson: that you should never wish badly upon others or
do something you wouldn’t want – a sense of karma. As we go along, we see the
famous game of “dice” being played between Yudhishthira and Shakuni. One by one
Yudhishthira lost everything to Shakuni and Duryodhana – even Draupadi. When
Draupadi was brought in, Duryodhana tried to misbehave with her. At that moment
she began chanting to Lord Vishnu – he heard- and while Duryodhana was trying to
strip of her Sari – there was another one and another one. And then suddenly the
dice board just burst – deeming the match unsuccessful. Draupadi granted that
they leave them all alone. This scene shows the good karma contrary to the bad karma
others in the story are receiving.
