Rama made the decision to be the King of Ayodhya. Upon hearing
the news Manthara, Kaikeyi’s maid, decided to plant negative thoughts in her
mind. Kaikeyi went to Dasharatha and demanded that her two boons be fulfilled:
Rama was exiled, and her son Bharata became King. Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana
began their 14-year journey in exile. Lakshmana never took rest, his wife
Urmila, slept day and night for him. Dasharatha dies one night – in the
thoughts that he lost his son. Bharata and Shatrughna return from Kekaya and
realized that Manthara was the one who stirred the pot. They hurry to tell Rama
and hopefully bring him back to Ayodhya – but Rama respectfully declined. Manthara
was also present and begged Rama to forgive her – but he said that they will meet
in their next life – in which karma is awaiting her.
Shurpanaksha, Ravana’s sister, asked to marry Rama or Lakshmana.
When both refused, she decided to kill Sita. Before she could, Lakshmana cut her
ears and nose off and she went running - calling for her cousins Khara and
Dushana. Ravana finds out that someone has injured his sister. He turns Maricha
into a golden deer to distract Rama. His plan worked, Rama went toward the deer
while Sita and Lakshmana stayed at home. They heard a shriek which sounded like
Rama but was in fact Maricha. Lakshmana drew a line for Sita that she should not
cross until they come back. Ravana appears in a different form. She crosses the
line and Ravana and her both vanish.
Hanuman was born when his mother Anjana and the wind-god Vayu met. Anjana left Hanuman in the forest alone – this led him to feel hungry. He mistook the sun as a mango. Hanuman had many supernatural abilities – this would later help him to save Sita. Sugriva and Hanuman became good friends.
